The Singing Warrior Hits the Fahrenheitstraat!

When as a child those around you are not helping you, but hurting you, sing a song. Such is the message in The Singing Warrior, the haunting, but heart-warming memoir of Irish born Niamh Ni Bhroin, who is now a local resident in De

The Singing Warrior

Bomenbuurt. Niamh (pronounced Neve) has been a regular here at La Buena Vida on the Fahrenheitstraat since we opened six months ago, and I wrote about her story a few months back in Where Everybody Knows Your Name:

One day another regular came in, and I introduced Neve (an Irish woman raising her daughter alone here in the Netherlands) to Maude, and they have become fast friends with a lot in common. We missed Neve the past couple of weeks as she has just returned from a trip to New York City to promote her upcoming book, The Singing Warrior to be published by Summertime Publishing on the 30th of November. I have read an extract of her book and her life journey, and this is a woman who has endured significant pain in her life and yet continues to be one of the sunniest people I have met.

Her tagline for her book is:

The Singing Warrior: Finding Happiness after a past filled with pain

This is a story of survival. Raped inside a wardrobe by the father of one of her school friends when she was just nine years old, an Irish Catholic growing up in Dublin who was called the Whore of Babylon by the nuns because she was left-handed: this was just the beginning of a life of abuse. Singing saved her life and her sanity.

During the holidays Niamh dropped in to hand deliver and sign a copy of her newly published book, and I have been reading it during our recent new year’s trip to Barcelona. It is a well written, emotional journey which will have you laughing and crying while on the same page. It is clear Niamh’s active imagination has helped her throughout her life to look at the sunny side of the situation through song and poems. Her ultimate triumph is well deserved, as she is a deserving soul. Making her life story a public memoir has ultimately been a healing process for her, as she has grown to love herself during her poignant path.

We at La Buena Vida are honored to host a book signing for our newest neighborhood celebrity, Niamh Ni Bhroin, author of The Singing Warrior on Saturday, the 15th of January at 10:00am. The book is now available at Bruna on de Fahrenheitstraat or you can pick up a signed copy at La Buena Vida on the 15th during her book signing for 17,95.

We are located at Fahrenheitstraat 582 The Hague. Please join us to celebrate Niamh’s success!

    Hi Ginny,

Thank you so much for all your wonderful support. I’m really looking forward to being at La Buena Vida this Saturday at 10.00 a.m. As you know, I am a great fan of your gifts in the shop. I love the way that you have something special for everybody. You and Paul are a fantastic asset to the Fahreinheitstraat. We needed a bit of a boost. 2011 is going to be a wonderful year for the Bomenbuurt. I will drop in for my ‘usual’ pick-me-up during the week. Everybody out there, please drop by La Buena Vida. I actually wrote some of my book while sipping on their fantastic coffee. Their cosy coffee corner has inspired me on many an occasion. Paul and Ginny are here to stay (I insist). Their gifts are styleful and affordable. The most important thing is that they are genuinely sweet people with very big hearts and we all need some of that, now and again.

    Love
